Australia increases imports of seafood from Vietnam
Imports of Thailand’s seafood into Australia decreased significantly in 2021, while imports from Vietnam showed a sharp increase.

According to the International Trade Centre (ITC), over 10 months of 2021, imports of seafood into Australia’s market reached 171.04 thousand tons, worth USD 1.14 billion, down 1% in quantity, but up 3.2% in value over the 10 months of 2020.
Thailand is still the largest supplying market of seafood for Australia over the ten months of 2021, but imports from Thailand have decreased significantly. Only reached 41.15 thousand tons, worth USD 218.5 million, down 40.9% in quantity and 39.3% in value over the same session of 2020.
Vietnam is the second-largest supplying market of seafood for Australia over 10 months of 2021, reaching 29.76 thousand tons, worth USD 212.8 million, up 42.4% in quantity and 45.8% in value over the same session of 2020.
Vietnam's seafood market share regarding quantity in Australia increased from 12.09% over 10 months of 2020, to 17.4% over 10 months of 2021.
In which, the market share of many seafood products of Vietnam in the total import value of Australia increased over the same period in 2020 such as frozen shrimp increased from 48.1% over 10 months of 2020 to 67.1%; processed shrimp without sealed containers increased from 55.1% to 58.2%; frozen fish meat increased from 18.1% to 30%.
